What a wonderful wedding year to look forward to in 2012.

These are just a few of the trends to expect to see in the next wedding season.

Black and White:  Extremely popular in 2011 with this trend continuing into this upcoming wedding season.  Damask print ever so dominant in 2011 will still have its presence in 2012.  Also you will see touts of black creating a splash of pop and contract such as hand painted accents and details. Large black flowers filled in by hand, creating a Spanish/modernistic motif will also be popular in 2012.

Minimalistic detail such as smooth with ribbon sporting a single flower will also be strong in this seasons wedding cakes.  Single flowers such as calla lilies will be taking a back seat to large flowers such as peonies and magnolias.  Soft whites, ivory, and pale pink have returned as popular accents as well.  If more color is your style, a strong accent color such as orange and reds will also be seen on wedding cakes this year.

Smaller cakes were popular in 2011 but tall cakes are making a comeback in 2012!  So if your guest count is small then double layer cakes will be seen to grow your cake.  Different heights of layers also brings great dimension and contrast!  Expect cakes to make a statement this year!

Ruffles are in!!  Icing and fondant to imitate the dress designs from ruffles, swirls, pleats, buttons and bows!  Don’t forget the brooches… Something old.. Something new.   Expect to see touches of vintage as well in scrolling, lace and accents.

Monochromatic: tone on tone with sleek, pearl embellished details will continue to be a trend in 2012.

Although fondant cakes are georgeous, buttercream is in!  Buttercream can be as smooth as fondant and produce a good mouth feel.  Caterers prefer to cut buttercream because of ease of cutting and plate presentation.

And remember..  the style that’s in is the style that makes you smile.

This is your dream cake and it’s your wedding day.
