Icing on the Cake: Short, Fun, Informal Q & A with Pat Gordon of Heavenly Sweets

Veteran cake decorator, Pat Gordon has worked for Heavenly Sweets for 17 years. Pat helps bake and makes many of the fillings Heavenly Sweets is known for. Filling, crumb coating, and icing cakes are Pat’s main responsibility. Single handedly, Pat can get approx 30 cakes ready for decorating a day. Wedding cakes take a bit more work. They require 3 coats of frosting to ensure their smoothness and beautiful flawless work. Pat is amazing at making butter cream look as smooth as fondant with crisp clean edges.

Q: Where were you born?
A: Fremont, IN

Q:Where is your favorite place to vacation?
A: Florida. We spend a lot of the winter in St. Augustine

Q: What is your favorite thing about working for Heavenly Sweets?
A: ((laughing)) Eating my mistakes

Q: What did you do before working at Heavenly Sweets?
A: I managed snack bar for Stony Creek Golf Course

Q: Do you have any kids and grandkids?
A: I have 4 children and 11 grandchildren.

Q: What do you do in your spare time?
A: I like to work in my garden. Anything working with my hands. I also really enjoy camping.

Q: What’s your favorite color?
A: Red

Q: What’s your least favorite Heavenly Sweets cupcake?
A: Hmmm…..White Almond Wedding. I don’t like almond. I had to stop and think about all the flavors of cupcakes we have.

Q: Are you apart of any special clubs?
A: Goldwing Motorcycle Club & Camping Club

Q: Do you have a nickname?
A: Mom & Dad called me “Peanut”
